An Impressionistic artist, Joseph Baris At the start of World War II, Joseph was born in Esperia, a small agricultural community located between Rome and Naples. The town was occupied by German forces, and played a minor, though key role in the brutal six month long battle for nearby Monte Casino by allied forces. At 16 he immigrated with his father and sister to the United States, taking residence in Cincinnati. A mostly self taught artist who has received guidance from Roland Huston, Joseph worked in watercolor for years before switching to oils in the1980s.He has also studied under Chuck Marshall. Though he paints a wide range of landscapes, his work is often inspired by his memories of the Italian countryside, And his unique style is inspired by artists such as Monet. Joseph’s work is held in many corporate and private collections.
“It is important to me to have observed and experienced a place before I paint it.In composing the painting, my memory will serve as a guide for light, color, texture, and freedom of expression. The finished work will be a representation of the area that I have chosen to paint. I find this way of painting to be creative, exciting, and rewarding.
